Search for Fields in the Inspector

Summary

The inspector shows every field you can edit on the files in a batch upload. In portals with a large taxonomy, that list can be long, and the field you need may be far down. Field search lets you filter the inspector by field name, so you can go straight to the field you want to edit without scrolling.

Who?

Batch Uploads in Workspace are available to Publishers with Access Workspace and Upload assets permissions, and Requesters with Access Workspace and Upload assets with mandatory approval permissions.

How?

Search for a Field in the Inspector

Use search when you know the name of the field you want to edit but don't want to scroll through the full list. It also helps you get to fields you've hidden from List view, since every field is available in the inspector.

  1. Open the inspector. To edit one file, open it in View mode. To edit several files at once, select them to enter Selection mode. For details, see Editing Modes in a Batch Upload.

  2. Click the Search field at the top of the inspector.

  3. Type any part of the field name.

The inspector shows only the fields whose names contain your text. You can edit these fields as usual.

A few details to be aware of:

  • Search isn't case sensitive. For example, "desc" and "Desc" both find Description.

  • Search matches field names only. It doesn't search the values in a field or the options in a select field

  • Search includes fields you've hidden from List view. For more on hiding columns, see Manage Columns in a Batch Upload.

  • Your search stays active when you open another file in the inspector, so you can edit the same field on several files one after the other.

  • Closing the inspector clears your search.

If no field names contain your text, the inspector shows the message "No field matched your search".

Clear the search when you're done with a field and want to see all fields again, or when your search didn't match any field.

To clear the search, do one of the following:

  1. Click the X in the Search field. The X appears as soon as you start typing.

  2. Delete the text in the Search field.

The inspector shows the full list of fields again.
