Preparing Your Storage for Migrations, Imports, and Exports: IP Allowlisting

Summary

Before initiating a data migration, import, or export, you must configure your source and destination storage solutions to accept traffic from our systems. This step ensures that firewall restrictions or IP allowlists do not block the file transfer process.

Who?

Customer IT administrators, network engineers, and technical stakeholders responsible for managing storage solutions and organizational security policies.

Why?

We run our file transfer processes in the background on AWS EC2 instances. All file transfers originate from a fixed IP address. If your source or destination storage solutions—most commonly Azure Blob Storage, SFTP servers, or SharePoint tenants—enforce strict firewall rules or IP allowlists, they will block the transfer.

Adding the "check for firewall and IP allowlist restrictions" step to your pre-migration, import, and export checklists prevents critical blockers and ensures your file transfers start on time without delays.

How?

Follow these steps to authorize our fixed IP address within your storage environment:

  1. Identify the source and destination storage solutions you will use for the transfer (for example, Azure Blob Storage, SFTP servers, or SharePoint).

  2. Contact your Bynder implementation or support representative to request the specific AWS EC2 IP address assigned to your transfer process.

  3. Log in to your storage solution's administrative portal.

  4. Navigate to your network security configuration, typically found under a path like Settings > Security or Network > Access Policies.

  5. Add the provided Bynder AWS EC2 IP address to your authorized IP allowlist.

    • Optional: If your organization requires a specific port configuration for SFTP, ensure you open the required ports alongside the IP address.

  6. Save your changes and confirm the updated policy is active before your scheduled transfer date.
