Set Metaproperty Options to Read-only

Summary

Setting specific metaproperty options to read-only prevents users from selecting or assigning those options to new or existing assets. Metaproperty options already associated with assets remain visible, preserving historical metadata while restricting future tagging. Once an option is set as read-only, all users, including Administrators, cannot tag assets with it.

Who?

To manage metaproperty options and set them to read-only, users must have the following permission enabled:

  • Manage metaproperties

Why?

As your taxonomy evolves, specific metadata options may become deprecated or temporarily restricted (for example, retired brand categories, legacy campaign names, or discontinued product lines). Setting these options to read-only allows you to maintain clean taxonomy governance without deleting historical metadata from previously tagged assets or breaking existing search filters.

How?

Follow these steps to set specific metaproperty options to read-only:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Taxonomy > Metaproperties management and click Configuration in the left sidebar.

  2. Click the metaproperty containing the options you want to set as read-only.

  3. Select Settings in the right-hand sidebar.

  4. Click Read only options.

  5. Search for and select the options from the list.

    • Note: Restricting an option to read-only prevents all users, including Admins, from tagging new or existing assets with that option.

    • Note: Assets previously tagged with these options will retain their metadata and remain searchable in the DAM.
