Resume an interrupted upload

Summary

If a batch upload is interrupted, like when you refresh the tab, close the browser, or lose your internet connection, you can resume it by re-adding the same files. Bynder matches your selection against the files that didn't finish and picks up where they left off. You have 7 days from the time of interruption to resume, as long as you don't clear your browser's local storage in the meantime.

Who? 

Batch Uploads in Workspace are available to Publishers with Access Workspace and Upload assets permissions, and Requesters with Access Workspace and Upload assets with mandatory approval permissions.

How?

Leave a batch with uploads in progress

Sometimes you need to navigate away or close the tab before an upload finishes. Bynder warns you first and gives you an option to open the Uploads page in a new tab, so you can keep working in Bynder without stopping the upload.

1. Try to navigate away from the batch, close the tab, or close the browser window. The Leave page modal opens.
2. Choose one of the following:
   • Click Cancel to stay on the page. The upload keeps running.
   • Click Open new tab to open the Uploads page in a new tab. Your current tab stays open and the upload continues, and you can navigate elsewhere in Bynder from the new tab.
   • Click Leave to navigate away. The upload stops and the batch is marked as interrupted.

Find and open an interrupted batch

When an upload is interrupted, the batch stays on the Uploads page so you can come back to it.

1. Go to the Uploads page in Workspace.
2. Click the batch you want to resume. The Upload interrupted modal opens.
3. Click Got it to dismiss the modal and continue to the batch.

Once you're in the batch, the header shows an Uploaded X of Y count so you can see how many files made it through before the interruption.

Re-add files to resume the upload

Instead of starting the batch from scratch, re-add the same files and Bynder picks up where it left off. You can also include new files in the same selection if you want to extend the batch at the same time.

1. Open the interrupted batch.
2. In the top right of the batch, click the three-dot menu.
3. Click Add files.
4. From your computer, select the files you originally tried to upload. You can include new files in the same selection.
5. Click Open.

How files in your selection are handled:

• Files are matched to interrupted files by file name. Content isn't compared.
• Files that were partway through uploading resume from where they left off.
• Files that were queued at the time of interruption requeue and start from 0.
• Files that already finished uploading are skipped automatically.
• Files that don't match any interrupted file are added as new files in the batch.

Resume when the batch is near its size limit

Interrupted files take priority on resume, so they fill in first when the batch is close to its size limit. This lets you finish what you started even when there's little or no room left for new files.

Three situations come up when resuming a batch near its limit. In each, the Maximum capacity reached modal opens after you click Open:

• The batch is at its limit with no interrupted files. The modal shows Continue with 0 files and you can't add anything. Cancel the action and start a new batch instead.
• The batch is at its limit with interrupted files. Only the interrupted files in your selection fit. Any new files in your selection are skipped.
• The batch has some room left and your selection contains interrupted files. Interrupted files resume first, then new files fill the remaining slots until the limit is reached. The rest are skipped.

Click Continue with X files to proceed, or click Cancel to adjust your selection.

Resume within 7 days

Resume relies on data stored in your browser, so the window for resuming isn't open forever. Knowing the limits helps you avoid losing progress.

• You have 7 days from the time of interruption to resume an upload.
• Clearing your browser's local storage before then also ends the resume window.
• After 7 days, or after clearing local storage, you can still re-upload the same files, but they start from 0. If an asset record was already created for any file during the original upload, Bynder relinks to it in the batch so you don't end up with duplicates.
