Upload and View Animated GIF/AVIF Assets

Summary

If you have animated GIF/AVIF files and want your users to view the animation directly in Bynder, our asset detail view provides animated playback for an immediate viewing experience.

This feature/solution requires Customer Support to enable, but then individual permissions can be done by the Bynder Admin.

Why?

  • Automated Workflow: Eliminates the manual step of marking individual GIF/AVIF assets as public during upload.

  • Enhanced Security: Keeps non-public assets secure while maintaining full playback functionality in the portal.

  • Improved Preview Experience: Delivers immediate, seamless animated playback directly inside the Asset Detail View.

How?

Enabling Default Animated Playback (Recommended)

  1. Contact your Customer Success Manager or Bynder Support to enable the feature for your portal.

Uploading Animated Assets

  1. Navigate to Upload Media and drag and drop your GIF/AVIF files into the uploader.

  2. Complete metadata fields as needed and 

  3. Select Store Selected Files to complete the upload.

Alternative Method: Marking Assets Public (Legacy Setup)

If default animated playback is not yet enabled for your portal, use the following manual steps:

  1. Navigate to Upload Media and select your GIF/AVIF files.

  2. In the upload queue, expand Advanced Rights.

  3. Check the box to mark the asset as Public.

    • Note: If this option is unselected without default animated playback enabled, the asset preview will remain static.

  4. Select Store Selected Files to finalize upload.

Viewing Animated GIF/AVIF Assets

  1. Search or filter for your target GIF/AVIF asset in the DAM.

  2. Click the asset thumbnail to open the Asset Detail View. Playback begins automatically in this view, while thumbnails in grid or list view remain static.

Watermarking Behavior Note

Animated Playback Setup (Non-Public): Watermarked previews in the Asset Detail View transition from animated to static with the watermark applied. 
Legacy Public Setup: Watermarked previews in the Asset Detail View remain fully animated without a visual watermark.
