Upload and View Animated GIF/AVIF Assets

Summary

Bynder supports native animated playback for GIF and AVIF files directly within the Asset Detail View. By default, with Enhanced Content Architecture (ECA) enabled for your portal, animated previews play automatically upon opening the asset without requiring public file exposure.

This feature/solution requires Customer Support to enable, but then individual permissions can be done by the Bynder Admin.

How?

Enabling Default Animated Playback (Recommended)

  1. Contact your Customer Success Manager or Bynder Support to enable default ECA animated playback for your portal.

  2. Navigate to Upload Media and drag and drop your GIF/AVIF files into the uploader.

  3. Complete metadata fields as needed and select Store Selected Files.

  4. Access the asset in Asset Detail View to experience immediate animated playback.

Alternative Method: Marking Assets Public (Legacy Setup)

If ECA default playback is not yet enabled for your portal, use the following manual steps:

  1. Navigate to Upload Media and select your GIF/AVIF files.

  2. In the upload queue, expand Advanced Rights.

  3. Check the box to mark the asset as Public.

    • Note: If this option is unselected without ECA enabled, the asset preview will remain static.

  4. Select Store Selected Files to finalize upload.

Viewing Animated GIF/AVIF Assets

  1. Search or filter for your target GIF/AVIF asset in the DAM.

  2. Click the asset thumbnail to open the Asset Detail View. Playback begins automatically.

Watermarking Behavior Note

ECA Default Setup (Non-Public): Watermarked previews transition from animated to static with the watermark applied. Download permissions and watermark rules remain strictly enforced. 
Legacy Public Setup: Previews remain fully animated without a visual watermark, but downloaded files adhere to assigned user permission and watermarking rules.
