How To Use Text In Studio

Summary

Text is one of the elements that users can add to designs within Studio. Control the various font and color options for the text in addition to what the Content Creators will be able to update when creating an image or video.

Who?

This feature/solution requires your Customer Success Contact to enable, but then individual permissions can be done by the Bynder Admin.

Once Studio is enabled users with the Admin or Content Designer permission can add text elements and manage the text settings. All users can use text elements.

Why?

Text is an integral aspect of content creation. Studio users have the ability to customize their text, and Admins and Content Designers have the ability to manage the permissions and usability of certain text elements to ensure brand consistency.

How?

Adding Basic Text

  1. Navigate to Studio and then select an existing design or create a new one.
  2. Add text:
    • Images: Click + new layer in the layer panel.
    • Videos: Click + add asset in the timeline editor.
  3. Select Text, then enter the text copy.

Adding Dynamic Text Backgrounds As An Admin Or Content Designer

Dynamic text backgrounds are automatically adjusted background colors or effects applied behind text elements to improve their visibility. These backgrounds adapt based on the content and the underlying image or design, ensuring the text remains clear and prominent.

  1. Navigate to Studio.
  2. Create a new design or open an existing one.
  3. Select Edit Design.
  4. Select the Text Element within the design to apply the dynamic background.
  5. In the text editing pane, navigate to the Effects section.
  6. Click next to Backgrounds.
  7. Users can adjust the following settings to customize the background.
    • Color: Select a color that complements your design while ensuring readability. Choose from the select colors or predefined brand colors.
    • Padding: Increase or decrease the padding around the text to control how much space the background covers.
    • Radius: Changes the roundness of the edge of the background.
  8. Preview the text with the dynamic background applied. Make adjustments to ensure the text is legible and fits well within the overall design. Users may need to change the text color.

Applying Wrap Modes As An Admin Or Content Designer

  1. Navigate to Studio.
  2. Create a new design or edit an existing one.
  3. Select or create a text element.
  4. In the right-hand settings pane find the text wrap options, and select which is needed.
    • By default, Text wrap is set to shrink text to fit.02_-_Text_wrap.png
    • Auto-resize text: If the minimum font size for this option is reached the text can extend out of the bounding box.

Note: If the minimum font size for this option is set to lower than 100% the text will break into a new line until the bounding box is filled. When the bounding box is full the text will try to stay within the box by shrinking until the minimum font size is reached.

    • Wrap text: breaks a line of text to fit within the bounding box without adjusting the font size.
    • Limit text to bounding box: Control if the text should stay limited to the bounding box or if it's allowed to overflow outside of the bounding box.
    • Shrink text to fit: Shrink the text to fit within the bounding box of the text element.
  5. Click Save and then Publish.

Understanding And Applying Text Formatting Options

  1. Click the Text element.
  2. Edit text: Double-click the text in the preview to edit the copy.

  • Alignment: Click one of the predefined alignment options to set the alignment, or drag and drop the element to the desired location.
  • Resize: Manually enter the width and height of the text element or drag and drop the corner to resize. Click the lock button to lock the aspect ratio.
  • Location: Enter the coordinates for the element or drag and drop it to the desired location.

  • Font size: Set the size of the font.
  • Line height: Control the vertical distance between lines of text in a paragraph.
  • Letter spacing: Define the space between characters in a word, line, or paragraph.
  • Decoration:
    • Underline: Puts a line under the text.
    • Strikethrough: Puts a line in the middle of the text.
  • Script:
    • Superscript: Places text above the line and smaller, helpful for copy that uses exponents or degrees.
    • Subscript:  Places text below the line and smaller, helpful for copy that uses chemical notations.
  • Case:
    • Uppercase: Capitalizes text.
    • Lower-Case: Keeps text lower-case.
  • Outline:  The outline is inherited from the font color. Other brand colors must be set to make the outline color available to be changed.
  • Font Scale: Allows users to adjust the size of linked text elements on child sizes so that they fit the dimensions of the design. Use the slider to adjust the size or manually enter the percentage.
  • Color: Add the text color by manually entering the hex code or clicking the paint dot button to select one of the brand colors. Click Configure element styles to allow Content Creators to change the text color. Check the box next to the brand color to make it available.
  • Alignment: Set the alignment, which determines how the text is distributed within its bounding box.
  • Text wrap:
    • Wrap text: This option automatically breaks a line of text to fit within the text element's bounding box without adjusting the font size.
    • Shrink text to fit: Automatically adjust the font size on a line of text to fit within the text element bounding box. Control the minimum size of the font as it shrinks by using the slider or manually entering the minimum size percentage.
  • Duration (video only): Set the duration of the text by dragging and dropping the element in the editor or manually entering the duration.
  • Timeline behavior: Click the dropdown to set the timeline behavior. We recommend setting the timeline behavior to Auto.
  • Visibility control: Click the toggle to allow creators to hide/show elements during the variation creation process. You can still enable the visibility control if a layer is locked. If it’s locked, the user will be able to hide the element but won’t be able to make any additional edits.
  • Effects:
    • Shadow- Create a shadow effect applied to the text.
    • Backgrounds - Dynamic text backgrounds are automatically adjusted background colors or effects applied behind text elements to improve their visibility. These backgrounds adapt based on the content and the underlying image or design, ensuring the text remains clear and prominent.
  • Blend Modes: Blend modes are effects applied to a layer that change how its colors interact (blend) with those on underlying layers, allowing you to achieve different visual outcomes. Users can apply one of 16 available blend modes to image, video, text, and shape elements.
