Why?

With this integrated feature, you can now create high-quality PDF files directly from Studio, ensuring your assets are ready for small-scale local printing without any extra hassle.

How?

The PDF workflow is divided into two simple stages: setting up your page correctly from the start, and choosing the right export settings at the end.

  1. Start with the correct page size

To ensure your design has the correct dimensions when exported in 300dpi, we have added a new "Print" category to the page selection menus.

When starting your design, or when adding a new page, simply choose one of the standard page size presets, such as "Print A4" or "Print US Letter." This guarantees your canvas is perfectly sized from the very beginning.

Note: Users can insert page sizes manually, but ensure the Pixel Size matches 300 DPI for correct print dimensions.

Preset Name Dimensions (mm) Dimensions (in) Canvas Pixels @ 300 DPI
    A4 210 x 297 mm 8.27 x 11.69 in 2480 x 3508 px
    US Letter 215.9 x 279.4 mm 8.5 x 11 in 2550 x 3300 px

    International Sizes (ISO A Series)

Preset Name Dimensions (mm) Dimensions (in) Canvas Pixels @ 300 DPI

    A5 148 x 210 mm 5.83 x 8.27 in 1748 x 2480 px
    A6 105 x 148 mm 4.13 x 5.83 in 1240 x 1748 px

    A6 Postcard 148 x 105 mm 5.83 x 4.13 in 1748 x 1240 px
  2. Once your design is complete, navigate to the Export menu. Select PDF for Print.

When you are ready to export your design, choose the preset from the "PDF for Print" menu that best matches your printer's location and requirements.

Understanding PDF For Print Technical Settings

The high resolution PDF feature automatically manages the following technical requirements to ensure your file is ready for in-office printing.

  • Color Space (CMYK Conversion): Digital screens display colors using an RGB (Red, Green, Blue) profile, while physical printers use a CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) ink process. This feature automatically converts your design's colors from RGB to the appropriate CMYK profile, ensuring the colors in your printed product appear as accurate as possible.

  • Image Resolution (300 DPI): For images to appear sharp and clear in print, they must have a high resolution. This feature ensures all raster images (like photos) in your design are set to the industry standard of 300 Dots Per Inch (DPI).

  • Crop Marks: When printing, designs are often printed on larger sheets and then trimmed to their final size. Crop marks are small lines in the corners of the PDF that show the printer exactly where to cut. Certain export presets will automatically include these marks for you.

  • Bleed: A "bleed" is a small extra margin of your design that extends beyond the trim edge. This ensures that after cutting, there are no unprinted white edges. PDF export settings that include bleed, will automatically add a standard 3mm bleed on all sides, using design elements that exceed past your design canvas area.

FAQs

I don’t see all export presets in my Export dropdown, or I see too many presets listed. Can I change that?

Bynder admins can enable or disable export presets for your end-users. Contact Bynder to customize the export preset list to fit your needs.

Can I change the DPI or CMYK profile myself?

No, to ensure reliability and simplicity, this feature uses industry-standard defaults that cover the most common printing needs.

Why do the colors in my exported PDF look different than on my screen?

The range of colors that can be displayed on a screen (RGB) is wider than what can be reproduced with ink (CMYK). Our system makes the most accurate conversion possible, but some very bright or vibrant screen colors may appear slightly muted in the final print-ready PDF.

Will the PDF include printer's marks, like registration marks or color bars?
No, at this time this is not included.

Is the exported file a specific PDF/X standard file?

The initial PDFs are not certified to meet specific standards like PDF/X-1a.
