Depending on your configuration settings, metadata in downloaded assets can either reflect the original metadata (from the upload date) or the most recent metadata (as of the download date). By default, standard XMP metadata will be embedded in the downloaded asset(s). Additionally, you can choose to include Bynder-specific metadata properties, which cover fields like title, description, tags, copyright, modified date, publication date, and creation date.
If it’s important for your metadata to be current (for instance, due to legal requirements), Bynder can ensure that only the metadata configured in the DAM appears in the download. This approach removes all original XMP metadata before download and replaces it with the most up-to-date XMP metadata available in the portal. This way, downloaded assets contain only the latest metadata edits or updates.
The metadata from the original asset will not be applied to any custom derivatives. However, metadata can still be added in Bynder, either from Bynder’s metaproperties or from the extracted metadata of the original asset, mapped to the relevant properties.
Note
Keep in mind that XMP metadata embedded in PNGs may not display correctly on Windows systems.
Enabling and Configuring Metadata Embedding for Downloads
When setting up metadata embedding, consider the following:
- Do you want XMP metadata embedded with each download?
- Should this be optional or required for each downloaded asset?
- Do you want to remove the original metadata before downloading and ensure that only metadata configured in the DAM is embedded?
- If Bynder-specific metadata is included, decide which fields to map for this purpose.
- If including the default Bynder fields (e.g., title, description, tags), do you want them added to the standard tag or require them in another tag?
