Slack Integration

  • Updated

Slack is a messaging app for businesses that connects people to the information they need. By bringing people together to work as one unified team, Slack transforms the way organizations communicate.

With Bynder's Slack integration, you can instantly turn updates made within your Bynder DAM into messages in Slack so that everyone will have the most up-to-date information. You'll be able to work from both platforms and stay synchronized!

How to enable this connector/ integration in your portal?

Contact your Customer Success Manager to learn more about enabling this integration and any associated costs.

How to set up the integration

  1. Log in to Bynder and Navigate to settings-icon.png Settings > Advanced settings > Portal settings.

  2. Click Browse Integrations in the left sidebar, then Configure in the Slack Connector section.

  3. Enter a Name for this configuration.

  4. Select New authentication to add your Bynder domain, which is the URL of your Bynder DAM and a Permanent Token

    • Setup will require a Bynder permanent token with read/write assets and read/write metaproperties. Learn more about Permanent Tokens here.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Add your Contact Email address. You'll receive an email once the configuration is complete.

  7. Enter your Timezone in the messages (only a one-time zone is allowed).

  8. Click Next.

  9. Click New Authentication to connect your Slack account.

    • Once connected, you will be directed to Slack's login page.

    • When notifications are sent, the user authenticated here will appear as the sender.

  10. In the dropdown, select the Slack Channel, group, or person that will receive notifications.

  11. If you want notifications sent at an interval, enter a Time Interval. Add the interval number and select the Unit (minutes, hours, days, weeks, months).

While you are required to enter an interval and unit, if you want all available notifications sent in real-time, check all options for the Notification Types in the step below.

  12. Check the box next to the Notification Types that you would like to be sent in real-time.

Not selected types will be sent in batches at intervals specified in the previous step.

  13. Click Save.

How to Use the Integration

Once the integration has been configured, the original email address from Step 6 will receive an email notifying them the configuration was successfully set up.

Changes made within the Bynder DAM will now be sent directly to the Slack channel, group, or individual you selected. Notifications will come from the person who set up the integration -it will appear in the selected Slack channel, depending on the type of update information that appears.

The following actions will elicit a notification to Slack:

  • Upload a new asset or version

  • Archive/set an asset to be archived.

  • Delete an asset

  • Change the metaproperty

Once the above action is complete, the following will appear in the Slack notification:

  • A thumbnail of an asset (available on all notifications except  when you delete, set to archive, and archive an asset )

  • Name of person (this appears when adding a new asset)

  • Internal Bynder Asset link

  • Timestamp of the change (in the Timezone configured)

Edit the Integration

If you want to disable the integration, update your Slack channel, or edit the time intervals, you can edit the configuration.

  1. Navigate to settings-icon.png Settings > Advanced settings > Portal settings.

  2. Click My Integrations in the left sidebar, then Edit in the section of the connection that you would like to update.

  3. Make your changes, then click Save.

If a new version of an asset is uploaded, will the Slack notification include that person's name?

No, at this time, the only time you see a person's name is if they upload a new asset.

Can I configure more than one Slack channel?

Yes, you would need to create an additional configuration by following the steps how to set up integration and selecting the additional channel/ user that you want to receive notifications.

Can I make changes to my assets from within Slack?

No, at this time, you cannot make changes to your assets from within Slack.

What if I want to have all of my notifications sent in real-time versus in intervals?

Even though it is required to include a time interval in the configuration, by checking all of the  notification types, you will automatically receive notifications in real-time.

Can I configure the notifications to be sent to a private slack channel?

Yes, you can configure notifications to be sent to a private slack channel (in addition to public channels).
