Slack Integration

Summary

Slack is a messaging app for businesses that connects people to the information they need. Slack transforms how organizations communicate by bringing people together to work as one unified team. With Bynder's Slack integration, users can instantly be updated when changes are made from within your Bynder DAM, by sending notifications to the relevant Slack recipients.

Who?

This feature/solution requires your Customer Success Contact to enable, but then individual permissions can be done by the Bynder Admin.

Don't yet have Bynder? Start Here!

For more details on configuration, please refer to Integrations Configuration: Recommended Permissions and Best Practices

Why?

Once the Slack x Bynder integration is configured changes made within the Bynder DAM will be sent directly to the Slack channel, group, or individual you selected. This real-time notification system helps Bynder users stay up-to-date when changes are made to the DAM. Notifications will come from the person who set up the integration. They will appear in the selected Slack channel, depending on the updated information type. Save time and stay informed with the Slack x Bynder integration.

How?

Configuring The Slack Integration

  1. Navigate to Settings > Advanced settings > Portal settings.
  2. Click Browse Integrations in the left sidebar, then Configure in the Slack Connector section.
    • On this page, you will also see all the other Integration Hub options that are part of the Standard Integrations Hub package
    • If you have purchased just one Slack connection, please select Slack option. If you have the Standard Integrations Hub option as part of your contract, this allows you to have up to five integrations configured from this page. You are able to see how many connections you have available:

    • Please note that a ‘configuration’ means setting up one of these connections one time.
  3. Enter a Name for this configuration.
  4. In the Slack Connector screen, select New authentication to add your Bynder domain, which is the URL of your Bynder DAM.
Note: Admins or authenticators require Webhook view and management permissions to be enabled in their profile type or portal.
  5. Click Next.
  6. In the Slack authentication window, click New Authentication to connect your Slack account.

  7. In the Create a New Authentication window, you will see a text box that says Slash command signing secret. Please ignore this and just click the Create button. This will pop out a window that allows you to sign into your Slack account.

    • Once connected, you will be directed to Slack's login page.
    • When notifications are sent, the user authenticated here will appear as the sender.
  8. In the Sender Name field, you can name the sender of the Slack messages. For instance, you may want to name it something like ‘Bynder Updates’.
  9. Click the Next button.
  10. On the Notifications page, you can choose what type of notifications you would like to receive in Slack, and how often. In the Frequency column, choose between None, Real Time, or Interval. If you select Interval, you will be able to choose the interval in lower down in the page.
  11. If you choose to receive notifications in Intervals, scroll down to the Interval section and type in a number, then select the Interval Units. For instance, you could select 1 in the Interval section, then Days in the Interval Units, and that would group all your notifications and deliver them once a day.
  12. Click the Next button.
  13. In the Event Channel Options screen, select the type of update in the Event column, then select the Slack channel you would like it to go in the Channel column. You can set up multiple mappings to multiple channels if you’d like.

  14. Click Finish.

The following actions will trigger a notification to Slack:

  • Upload of a new asset or version.
  • Archiving or setting an asset to be archived.
  • Deleting an asset.
  • Changing the metaproperties.

The following will appear in a Slack notification:

  • A thumbnail of an asset (available on all notifications except when you delete, set to archive, and archive an asset)
  • Name of person (this appears when adding a new asset)
  • Internal Bynder Asset link
  • Timestamp of the change (in the Timezone configured)
