Note
This feature will be available on September 2, 2024 as part of our September Product Release. To learn more reach out to your Customer Success Contact
The face recognition feature automatically tags image assets by identifying faces, eliminating the need for manual tagging. This enables quick searches for assets featuring specific individuals.
After you manually tag a person in an image at least once, the feature will automatically tag them in new and existing assets, saving time and ensuring consistent tagging across your library.
This feature simplifies managing employee headshots and identifying event attendees, guest speakers, and VIPs. It also helps with compliance by managing images with expiration dates and supports ambassador marketing by identifying brand ambassadors. Additionally, it recognizes partners and sponsors during events, making asset sharing easier afterward.

- When you remove the name, it will replace the name with the unnamed person tag.
Note

Create a New Smart Filter
We highly recommend creating a new smart filter to make searching for the identified persons easier for users.
- Follow the steps here to create a new smart filter.
- The metaproperty can also be used within an existing Smartfilter setup.
- We recommend using the “fa-group” as an icon to let the Smartfilter appear with a People-related icon.
- Enable the Smartfilter setting “Multi filter” so users can select assets from one or more People.
- We recommend translating the word for people to accommodate multiple languages that your portal services.
Important to Note
- If you expect a low number of Names, we advise using the Smart Filter type “select” or “smart-single.” These show the Metaproperty Option in a list.
- If you expect a high volume of Names, we advise using Smart Filter type “autocomplete,” which shows a search box so users can start typing the name they’re looking for.
- Note: The Autocomplete Smart Filter Type does not show thumbnails for any metaproperty option.
Important Metaproperty Configuration Information
- Once the feature is enabled in your portal, a new metaproperty with the database name “Recognized_Face” will be automatically created.
- This metaproperty is a read-only and Multi-select type.
- You should not change this metaproperty to a single select, as it will disrupt the functionality.
- It will not appear in the Upload or Edit screen (except for users who have the Edit hidden metaproperties on assets and edit assets permission enabled).
- You can edit the displayed name of the metaproperty, which does not affect the feature, and you can set up language translations for the metaproperty.
- You can customize the thumbnail of the metaproperty options. This allows you to show a thumbnail of the faces next to the names inside the Smartfilter. Click here to learn how.
- If you delete the name as a metaproperty option, it will remove the name from the smart filter but will not remove the face tag.
- To restore a deleted Metaproperty Option, click here.
FAQ
When are my images scanned and indexed for face recognition?
The faces are detected and indexed immediately after upload. Any previously uploaded assets are detected and indexed after the feature is enabled in your account.
When labeling a face with a name, how long does it take to add that name to all other images with that face?
The faces are detected and indexed during feature activation and after upload. When an “unnamed person” is updated with a “name,” it’s a matter of seconds (and a page refresh) before the name appears in the smartfilter and search.
Are celebrities automatically recognized and named?
No, celebrities are not automatically recognized. However, once a celebrity's face has been tagged once with a name manually, the system will automatically recognize it on all new and existing images.
Can I reuse any tagging I’ve done manually before this feature?
There is no option to import such data in bulk.
How many faces can be identified in an image?
A maximum of 100 faces can be found in an image.
When I use Search by Image with a screenshot of a face, will I get results similar to Face Recognition?
No, different results are expected. The Search by Image feature uses all image dimensions, while Face Recognition focuses on the facial characteristics within an image.
Can you have two names on one face?
No, you cannot.
Are there any file type restrictions?
The feature supports only Bynder-supported file-type images. It does not support video.
What happens if someone has the same name?
We do not recommend using the same name for different people. If this cannot be avoided, we suggest adding a middle initial or another defining character when two or more people share the same name.
