How to Manage DAT Presets in Portal Settings and the Asset Detail View

1. From the Bynder portal select Advanced Settings > Portal Settings > DAT Presets in the top righthand corner.
2. Click the ➕ New preset button.
3. Define the basic preset parameters:
   • Preset Name: Enter a descriptive name for the new preset in the Preset name field, do not add any whitespace to the name.
   • Description: (Optional) Detail the target channel or use case for the preset.
   • Group: (Optional) Check the box or select an option if you want to add this preset to an existing Preset Group or create a new Group.
4. Click Add Transformations to launch the new Advanced Preset Builder Modal.
5. Select a Reference Image: Choose an existing asset or up to 3 assets from your library to act as your visual reference.
   • Note: This step is optional. You can skip it and click + Add transformations to proceed without a live preview asset.
6. Build the Preset: Add transformations (e.g., Crop, Resize, Watermark, Border) via the searchable list.
   • Determine the details, fields, and values of your specific transformation.
7. Analyze the Real-Time Preview: Observe the Visual Canvas update instantly with every parameter change and toggle through the reference images to see how each transformation looks in every image.
8. Stack Transformations: Click + Add transformations to keep adding as many layers as needed for your preset recipe.
9. Configure Output Options: (Optional) Open the output options settings to define the final rules:
   • Format: Select the file extension type you want the output file to have (JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or Auto).
   • Quality: Adjust the quality slider (supported for WebP and JPEG).
   • DPI: Customize the DPI of the asset for printing purposes based on pre-defined or custom values.
10. Click Save Changes to save the new DAT preset.

Method B: Via the DAT UI (Workspace On-the-Fly)

This method allows you to build a global preset dynamically while working directly on an asset.

1. Open an asset in the DAT UI (Transformations) from the Asset Detail View.

2. Click on New Transformation at the top of the menu panel.

3. Click on + Add transformation to apply the desired parameters (e.g., cropping, padding, or filters) to your asset using the interactive canvas.

4. Once satisfied with the transformation recipe, click Save Preset.

5. A modal will appear prompting you to assign a Name and a Group to your preset.

6. Click Save to add this new preset to your global library.

2. Editing DAT Presets

Method A: Via Portal Settings

1. Navigate to Advanced Settings > Portal Settings > DAT Presets.

2. Click the three-dots button next to the preset needing edits and click Edit.

3. Modify or delete the existing transformations or add new ones by clicking the ➕ Edit transformation button.

4. Click the Output options dropdown to adjust DPI configurations or file formats (jpeg, png, webp, avif).

5. Click Save Changes to save the modifications globally.

Method B: Via the DAT UI (Asset Detail View)

Use this workflow to quickly tweak an existing preset for a specific campaign asset to ensure perfect focal points without leaving your workspace.

1. Open an asset in the DAT UI (Transformations) from the Asset Detail View.

2. Select the Presets tab in the sidebar.

3. Choose an existing preset from the list to apply it to your current asset.

4. Click on the three dots next to the selected Preset name.

5. Click the Edit preset icon (pencil) to open the parameter configurations.

6. All currently configured transformation rules will appear in a list. To modify a specific rule, expand it and make your adjustments on the fly.

7. To add a new layer to the preset, click the + sign next to the transformation menu.

8. To modify the administrative metadata (Name or Group), click the Edit pencil icon next to the preset name at the top of the modal.

9. Click Save Changes to update the preset globally across your portal.

3. Deleting DAT Presets

1. From the Bynder portal, navigate to Advanced Settings > Portal Settings > DAT Presets.

2. Click the three-dots button next to the preset being deleted and click Remove.

⚠️ Important Note on Deletion Deleting a preset is permanent. Any live URLs utilizing this exact preset name will break if a replacement configuration is not established.

Managing DAT Preset Groups

Creating A DAT Preset Group

1. Navigate to the Asset Bank.
2. Select Advanced Settings > Portal Settings > DAT Presets.
3. In the righthand corner select New preset group.
4. Name the Preset group. Do not add any whitespaces to the name.
5. Click Save.

Note: A DAT preset can only belong to one preset group. Duplicate a preset to add it to more than one group.

Adding or Removing a DAT Preset To/From a Group

1. Navigate to Advanced Settings > Portal Settings > DAT Presets.

2. Locate the target DAT Preset.

3. Click the three-dots button next to the preset.

4. Select Move to a preset group to add the preset, or select Remove from the group to remove it.

Editing and Deleting a DAT Preset Group

1. Navigate to Advanced Settings > Portal Settings > DAT Presets.

2. Select the Preset Group being edited and click the three-dots button.

3. Select your desired option:

   • Rename: Change the group name mapping.

   • Remove group: Deletes the group container but keeps all underlying presets safely in the general preset list.

   • Remove group and presets: Permanently deletes both the group container and all presets housed within it.

4. Click Save Changes.

Applying a DAT Preset & Generating Production URLs

Applying a Preset

1. Open your desired asset from the Asset Bank.

2. Click Transformations in the right-hand sidebar to open the DAT transformation panel.

3. Click your target preset in the right-hand sidebar. A real-time preview of the DAT derivative will generate instantly on the canvas.

4. Click the Copy button to copy the production URL of the DAT derivative, or click the three-dots button > Download to save the derivative locally.

📌 Note: Once an asset is downloaded locally, you can open the file and use Cmd + I (Mac) or file properties (Windows) to view the preserved asset metadata and DPI output configurations.

Choosing Your URL Structure

You can apply DAT Presets to your assets using two different URL structures. While both work for regular DAT Transform URLs, Predictable URLs currently require the use of Query Parameters.

• Path Parameter (Recommended): https://yourportal.bynder.com/transform/preset_name/assetId/

• Query Parameter: https://yourportal.bynder.com/transform/assetId/?preset=preset_name

Best Practices and Limitations

• Test with Complex Assets: When using the Advanced Preset Builder, select a "difficult" reference image (e.g., an off-center subject) to test the robustness of your padding and cropping logic.
• Search to Accelerate: Use the search bar in the transformation modal to quickly find specific filters like "Background Removal" or "Border."
• Reference Image Cap: You can select up to 3 reference images to observe how your presets are reflected across three completely different images.

Important Note on Cache Invalidation

Currently, updating a DAT Preset (e.g., changing dimensions, cropping logic, or output format) automatically invalidates the Bynder CDN cache only when using Path Parameters.

If you are using a DAT Preset as a Query Parameter (common with Predictable URLs) and you update the preset definition, the CDN cache may not reflect these changes immediately. Bynder is currently rolling out improvements to our invalidation service to automate this workflow across all structures. However, if you require an immediate cache clear following a preset update, please submit a Support Ticket here.
