Use "Did-You-Mean" Search Suggestions

Summary

"Did-you-mean" search suggestions help you quickly locate assets when a typo or spelling variation yields zero results. When a search returns no matches, Bynder checks the assets in your portal and presents corrected search terms as clickable links beneath the empty search page.

Who?

  • User Roles: Available to all users with access to search assets in the Bynder portal.

  • Permissions: Enabled by default; no administrative permissions or configuration required.

Why?

  • Reduce search friction: Recover from accidental typos without retyping queries or navigating away.

  • Bridge spelling differences: Locate assets regardless of regional spelling conventions, such as US and UK spelling differences.

  • Guaranteed results: Suggestions are generated directly from the assets stored in your specific portal, ensuring that clicking a suggestion always returns results.

How?

  1. Enter your search query into the main search bar in your portal and press Enter.

  2. If your search returns no results, check the area directly beneath the empty search screen.

    • The empty page appears immediately, while suggestions may take a moment to load.

    • If close matches exist in your portal, Bynder displays a Did you mean [term]? link.

    • If no close match exists, the standard "no results" page appears without suggestions.

  3. Select the suggested term to rerun your search automatically.

    • Any filters you previously applied remain in place.

    • If you prefer not to use the suggestion, enter a new query in the search bar. Suggestions will not override or change your search.

Limitations

  • UI only: Suggestions only appear for searches performed directly in the Bynder web interface. Searches made through the Bynder API do not return suggestions.

  • Portal-asset dependent: Suggestions are based strictly on the assets contained in your portal. A search term that does not closely resemble existing assets will not produce a suggestion.
