Are you looking for specific content in your Bynder portal? Use the search bar to find the right assets, collections or other content in your portal. The search bar supports sticky search or boolean search. You can also use search operators to specify your search and narrow down your search results. Use the search bar to find the right assets, collections or other content in your portal. This includes guides, chapters, pages and content of Brand Guidelines 2.0
Searching can be a huge time saver if you have thousands of assets in your asset bank and when you don't know the exact asset name. Apart from the asset name, you can search on titles, descriptions, tags, or asset UUIDs. Search also helps, if you look for specific workflows, guidelines, or if you search for specific phrases within guidelines.
When you click the search bar it will show you your recent searches.
To better understand why some results are returned the system highlights the description, copyright and/or tags that match your search query. See the 'boston skyline' image below for an example.
When you search for a phrase that consists of two terms, for example, Boston skyline, the top results show the assets that match both search terms. These are followed by the results that match only one of the terms.
Note
Mid-word searches are not supported. For example, when searching for land an asset only tagged with the title Finland won't be returned as search result. Check this section to find out how the search results are determined.
The search uses all the details provided by users to get results. It looks at the titles, descriptions, tags, or collection names. It also searches through the following digitalized documents: ai, doc, docx, rtf, xls, xlsx, ppt, ppt and pdf files. See the How are the search results determined? section for more information.
Below you'll find some tips and tricks for searching. Check out the Search Operators or Accessibility sections to find out how you can use our advanced search features.

If you want to get only the result that exactly match what you search for, wrap the search phrase in quotation marks, for example:
"Boston skyline"

If you want to search for assets that contain all the terms from the search phrase, you can use AND. For example, if you want your search results to show the assets with Boston and skyline, type:
Boston AND skyline

If you want to get results that contain one or the other term from the searched phrase, type the phrase as is, for example:
Boston skyline
This will show assets with Boston skyline, or Boston, or skyline in it. Alternatively, type Boston OR skyline to get the same results.

Are your assets tagged with a product reference, such as a SKU or other product code and do you want to search for multiple codes at the same time?
Smart filters do not allow you to search for multiple values at the same time, so use the search bar instead.
Make use of the OR search operator. For example:
SK128945 OR DE438765 OR NL231100 OR US214430
Use the method below if you want to perform an exact search with keywords that include a separator. For example, when you're searching for an exact match on multiple asset titles. Specific characters function as separators, which break up the word into sections. Read more about it here.

If you want to find assets that contain Boston but not skyline, type:
Boston AND NOT skyline
This will show assets with Boston and exclude any assets that contain skyline.
You can also search using smart filters available in the filter bar. You can easily add a filter and delete those you do not need any more, and the results adjust in the background. You can also search assets using advanced, color, and tag filters.
When you enter a search, the assets that match your search criteria will obtain a score. The search results will be shown in a descending order based on relevance. This is the case for the results visible in the search bar as well as for the overview page with search results. In this way, the most relevant media that best match your search criteria will be shown to you the first. Below you will find an outline of how the search results based on relevancy are determined. This is our default algorithm and cannot be customized for your portal.
The highest score will be given when the search matches:

the asset title

the metaproperty options the asset is tagged with

the tags the asset is tagged with
For these three categories our system indexes the first 20 characters of the values separately. For example, if the tag of an asset is animal, the values will be indexed as a & an & ani & anim & animal.
Lower scores will be obtained when the search only matches the following elements:

the filename of the uploaded asset
-
the asset description in Bynder
-
the contents of a document
-
the asset ID
Our system indexes these categories on a word basis and does not index parts of a word separately, which means that an exact match is necessary in order to get a score.
Bynder offers two search types. Boolean search is our default search method. Alternatively, Sticky search can be enabled for your portal. Check out the details below.
Boolean search is our default search type. You can enter your search query in the search bar and the system will show a list of matching search results. You can also press Enter, which will apply the search query as a search filter and return all the matching assets. Once the search has been performed and the filter has been applied, the search bar will be cleared. To narrow down the search results you can enter another search query in the search bar and press Enter, which will apply another search filter. You can add as many search filters as necessary until there are no more search results returned.
Boolean search allows you to make your search more specific by making use of search operators such as AND, OR and NOT . Make sure to type the operators in capital letters. Read more about the available search operators here.
Sticky search is an optional way of searching that can be enabled for your portal. Just as with Boolean search you can enter your search query in the search bar and the system will show a list of matching search results. Sticky search differs from Boolean search in a sense that the search query will not be applied as a search filter after pressing Enter. Instead the search query will remain visible in the search bar.
By leaving the term in the search box you can explicitly see what you last searched on, which allows you to modify your search easily. When you enter another search query the previous results will be cleared. So unlike Boolean search Sticky search does not allow you to narrow down your search results by applying multiple search filters.
There are also search operators available that allow you to make your search more specific. You cannot use the same search operators as available for Boolean search. Check out the differences here.
Contact your Customer Success Manager if you would like to have Sticky search enabled for your portal
The maximum amount of characters depends on multiple variables in Bynder’s infrastructure layers. With that in mind, Bynder suggests a limit of 5,000 characters that customers should take into account. Searching for more than 5,000 characters is unlikely to provide you with search results, but instead will present errors.
The 5,000 character amount stated is the total of both the boolean characters AND the query characters.

Spaces in your query are counted as 3 characters. aa OR bb = 2+3+2+3+2 = 12 characters.
There's also a maximum of 1024 boolean clauses for search on metaproperty options to use in a single query. In practice, you are more likely to hit the maximum character limit.
We can help you customize the search in such a way, that when your search returns no results you can click a button and run further search in Google or any other external source. If you use , for example, Shutterstock integration, you can extend your search to Shutterstock.
