How To Use Template Categories In Studio

Summary

The template management page gives users an overview of all the templates and template categories. Template categories allow Admins or Content Designers to organize related templates allowing users to find templates easily. 

Who?

This feature/solution requires your Customer Success Contact to enable, but then individual permissions can be done by the Bynder Admin.

Once Studio is enabled users with the Content Designer or Admin permission can create and manage template categories.

Why?

Creating a template category allows Admins or Content Designers to organize related templates allowing Content Creators to navigate to and find relevant templates easily. Users can update the cover image of the category to help users quickly identify the category. Users can add or remove templates to new or existing categories and configure the sharing settings of the individual templates or template categories. Users can also share template categories with other users.

How?

Creating A Template Category

 

  1. Navigate to Studio.
  2. Click Templates in the left sidebar.

  3. Click the new_category_studio.png button.
  4. A pop-up will appear, enter a name for your category and click Create category.Screenshot 2024-01-30 at 11.47.52 AM.png

Note: Once created, template categories are only available to the creator until they have been shared.

Sharing A Template Category

  1. Navigate to Studio.
  2. Click Templates located at the left-side navigation bar.
  3. Hover over the category you would like to share and click the Screenshot 2023-12-05 at 9.18.56 PM.png button.
  4. Select Share.
    • By default, categories are Restricted and only available to the owner i.e. the Designer that created them, and the Admin. 
    • If you select All users the category will be shared with all Studio users.    
  5. Search and select the individual, user group, or permission profile you wish to have access to the template category. share-restricted-to-all-users.png
  6. Click Save Changes.

Note: When a template is added to a category, it will inherit that category's share settings. For example, if a restricted template is added to a category shared with all users, the template will be shared with all users.

 

Adding A Template To A Category

  1. Navigate to Studio.
  2. Click Templates in the lefthand sidebar.

  3. Scroll down to the Templates section.

  4. Hover over the template you want to add to the Category and click the three_dots.png button.
  5. Select Move to Category.

  6. Select which Category you would like to add the template to from the dropdown.

    • A template can only belong to a single category.
  7. Click Move.
 

Removing A Template From A Category

  1. Navigate to Studio.
  2. Click Templates in the left sidebar.

  3. Click the Category where you want to remove the template.
  4. Click the three_dots.png button on the template that you’d like to remove.

  5. Select Remove from this Category.

Updating The Template Category Cover Image

  1. Navigate to Studio.
  2. Click Templates in the left sidebar.
  3. Navigate to the template category you want to update.
  4. Click the  button on the thumbnail of the template category.
  5. Select Edit details.
  6. Edit the Upload cover, click to add an image to the template category cover. The recommended formats are PNG or JPG. Alternatively users can update the color of the thumbnail by entering the desired colors hex code.
  7. Click Save Changes.

 

 

FAQs

Can a template be added to multiple categories?

No, each template can be added to a single category. If there are templates that should belong in multiple categories, you’ll have to duplicate the template and add it to the other categories.

Can I add a design to a category?

No, you can only add templates to a category.

Why can I not delete or move templates?

Only the template owner can delete or move templates to a different template category.
