AI Clipping Paths in Transformation Agents

Summary

AI Clipping Paths enable teams to define and generate vector clipping paths directly within Bynder DAM. By storing multiple clipping paths as asset metadata, we centralize image framing data directly where your assets live. This integration feeds high-precision crop data into Dynamic Asset Transformation (DAT) and CXOC delivery channels, eliminating reliance on external editing tools and third-party agencies.

Who?

This feature targets retail teams, creative operations, and high-volume Dynamic Asset Transformation (DAT) users who manage multi-channel image delivery.

Account and Feature Requirements

  • Subscription Package: Requires an active Transformation Agent subscription package.
  • CXOC for asset delivery

User Permissions

Administrators must grant specific permissions under Settings > Users & Rights > Permission Management:

  • Manage Agents: Enables users to design, configure, and publish reusable agents within the Agent Library.
  • Run Agents: Allows users to execute published agents on selected assets in the Asset Bank.

Why?

Preparing assets for Dynamic Asset Transformation and delivery across multiple distribution channels creates bottlenecks and inconsistent visual quality. External editing tools and agency handoffs slow down campaign launches and increase costs.

By defining AI Clipping Paths directly in Bynder DAM, we deliver several key benefits:

  • Faster Time-to-Ready: Automate multi-channel cropping workflows in bulk instead of editing files individually.
  • Centralized Precision: Store vector paths directly as asset metadata, providing DAT with exact coordinates for channel-specific renders.
  • Enhanced Quality Control: Review, fine-tune, and approve generated paths before publishing to downstream delivery channels.
  • Universal Format Support: Apply clipping paths across any image format, eliminating previous dependencies on TIF-only asset delivery.
  • Multi-Channel Delivery Support:
    • Multi-Channel Cropping: Define distinct bounding boxes for specific delivery presets (for example, "nose to knee" or "full body").
    • Guided Crops: Direct automated focus toward specific product elements, such as bottle labels or fabric swatches.

How?

Step 1: Preconfigure Portal Clipping Paths (Administrators)

  1. Go to Portal Settings > Clipping Paths.
  2. Select Add Clipping Path.
  3. Choose a name and Define the vector path prompt required for your channel specifications (for example, "nose to knee", "full body", or "isolate product label").
  4. Load any Image and click Generate Preview to test and refine your prompt.
  5. Select Save Path.

Step 2: Create an AI Clipping Path Agent

  1. Navigate to AI Agents to open the Agent Library.
  2. Select Create agent and choose Transformation.
  3. Select AI Clipping Paths as the core capability.
  4. Open the clipping path drop-down menu and select one or more preconfigured paths established in Step 1.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Fill in the agent details:
    1. Name: Assign a clear, descriptive title.
    2. Description: Add details explaining the operational purpose of the agent.
    3. Status: Set to Draft, Available, or Disabled.
  7. Add an image and click Generate preview to test the agent.
  8. Click Create agent.

Step 3: Run the Agent on Assets

  1. Open the Asset Bank and select one or more assets.
  2. In the action bar click Select agents.

  3. Select the appropriate agent(s) and click Run.

Step 4: Preview, Edit, and Approve Vector Paths

  1. Go to Workspace > Agent Activity and open the Clipping paths tab.
  2. Select your agent run to view the generated results.
  3. Select an image thumbnail to inspect the suggested vector clipping paths.
  4. Use the path drop-down menu on the preview screen to switch between defined paths (for example, switching from "full body" to "nose to knee").
  5. Adjust vector points directly on the image preview if fine-tuning is required.
  6. Click Apply all changes to update the suggested paths.

  7. Click on the top right button to Save all suggested path data at once, or select specific paths and click the check mark in the action bar.

The saved path data becomes immediately available to DAT and CXOC delivery presets.

Best Practices & Technical Limitations

  • Always Review Results: Review generated vector paths in Agent Activity before applying path data to production assets.
  • Overview Filters: When approving the results, use the dropdown filter Paths in the overview, to review - and save - each path separately. This will help you control for consistency and find the outliers that need to be tweaked
  • Prompt Instructions for Missing Objects: When configuring prompts to identify specific objects, include instructions such as "ignore if not found" to prevent incorrect path creation on non-matching assets.
  • Outline Clipping Path Support: Outline clipping paths (such as background removal paths) are currently not supported in this feature. They will be supported shortly.
  • Updating Active Paths: Updating or overwriting an existing clipping path that is already active in DAT is currently unsupported.
