Understanding Bynder's Notification Center and Email Notifications

Summary

Bynder's Notification Center keeps you informed about important portal activities, including asset lifecycle events, collection sharing, workflow updates and many more - both through in-app and email notifications. We continuously improve our notifications based on your feedback.

Feature & User Preferences Availability

  • Batched Notifications & Portal Defaults: Available to all portals as of October 19, 2026.

  • User Preferences: Rolling out gradually to all customers between October 26 and November 10, 2026. If you require early access before your scheduled rollout date, please contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM).

  • You can set your Portal Defaults ahead of the User Preferences release. Your default settings will take effect only once User Preferences are enabled in your portal.

Why?

Clutter-Free Workspace: The ability to delete notifications allows you to permanently clear out completed tasks and maintain a clean feed.

Eliminated Notification Fatigue (Batched Notifications): During large-scale portal maintenance—such as mass asset archiving, deleting, or approving requests in the Waiting Room — the system automatically aggregates rapid, high-volume actions into a single summary alert instead of sending hundreds of individual notifications.

Organization-Wide Baselines: Admins can establish portal notification defaults that align with business workflows without overriding individual user choices.

Seamless Session Persistence: The "Only unread" toggle now remembers your preference between sessions, saving you time and clicks every time you log in.

Faster Visual Triage: Updated styling makes different notification types (e.g., workflow updates vs. asset comments) visually distinct so you can scan and prioritize your work instantly.

Clearer Troubleshooting: Improved error messages provide direct, actionable clarity if something goes wrong.

Complete Brand Consistency: All system emails automatically feature your portal's custom logos and color schemes, removing visual discrepancies and ensuring a professional experience.

Understanding The Notification Center

The Notification Center interface allows you to easily track, filter, and organize your system alerts.

From this interface, you can take the following actions:

  • Batched Notifications (Auto-Enabled): Designed to eliminate notification fatigue during high-volume operations (e.g., bulk archiving, Waiting Room approval requests). The system uses a "wait and collect" logic to detect rapid, similar actions across all delivery channels (In-app and Email) and aggregates them into a single status summary. No admin setup is required.

  • Filter and Toggle: Filter alerts by feature type or toggle Only unread. The toggle state automatically persists across active sessions.

  • Mark as Read or Unread: Manage notification status individually or in bulk.

  • Delete Notifications: Permanently remove individual alerts or clear your entire feed at once.

  • Contextual Styling: Visual indicators distinguish task types, accompanied by descriptive error messages for quick troubleshooting.

Email Branding and Appearance

To ensure a consistent brand experience, Bynder automatically applies your portal's custom branding and theme settings—such as colors and logos—to all system emails sent from the platform. This guarantees a seamless, cohesive identity for your users across every automated communication.

Refreshed System Emails

All system-generated emails feature our refreshed, modern brand identity.

  • Consistent Security: While the aesthetics are modern and clear, all security protocols and sender information remain exactly the same. You can continue to trust these communications as official and secure updates from our team.

How?

Setting Portal Notification Defaults (Admins)

Administrators with the Manage portal settings permission can define baseline delivery channels (In-app, Email, or both) for users who have not customized their own preferences. You can set your Portal Defaults ahead of the User Preferences release. Your default settings will take effect only once User Preferences are enabled in your portal.

  1. Go to Portal Settings > Notification settings (under Notifications > Defaults).

  2. Review the listed notification types.

  3. Toggle the desired delivery channels (In-app or Email) for any notification type.

  4. Click Save and apply in the bottom-right corner.

  6. To revert all portal notification settings back to Bynder's standard configuration, click the Return to default button.

Note: Updated portal defaults apply portal-wide to all users who have never customized their preferences, starting with the next triggered notification. Users who have previously configured personal preferences will retain their choices.

Accessing the Notification Center

  1. Log in to your Bynder portal.

  2. Click the Bell Icon in the top navigation bar to open the notification preview menu.

  3. Click on any notification to view the asset or project directly.

Accessing User Preferences

  1. Open your Inbox (Bell Icon) in the top navigation bar.

  2. Click the Preferences Icon in the top right corner of the Inbox panel (or click Manage your notification preferences in the footer of any system email).

  3. Adjust channel toggles (In-app or Email) for each notification type.

  4. Admin Shortcut: Administrators viewing the User Preferences modal will see an Open Portal default settings icon (external link) in the header to jump directly to global portal configuration.

Adjusting Your Channels

Once you're in User Preferences, you'll see every notification type that can be adjusted. For each one, simply switch the toggle on or off for the channel you want — Email or In-app.

Note: Certain system-critical notifications require at least one active channel and cannot be turned off entirely.

Managing and Deleting Notifications

To organize your notification feed, you can change the status of individual messages or remove them entirely:

  • Mark as Unread: Hover your cursor over a notification and click the Circle Icon (status toggle) to mark it as unread. Unread notifications remain highlighted in your feed.

  • Mark as Read: Hover your cursor over a notification and click the Circle Icon (status toggle) to mark it as read.

  • Delete a Notification: Hover your cursor over the notification you want to remove and click the Trash Can Icon to permanently delete it from your feed.

  • Bulk Actions: Click Mark all as read to instantly mark all unread alerts as read, clearing your notifications quickly. Or select Delete all to remove all alerts at once and start fresh. You will receive a pop-up window for you to confirm deleting all of your notifications.

Filtering Your Feed ("Only unread" Toggle)

  1. Navigate to the Notification Center dashboard.

  2. Switch on the Only unread toggle to hide all read notifications.

Note: You don’t need to set this again. The Only unread toggle stays on between sessions and will be active the next time you log into Bynder.

FAQs

How far back can I view in-app notifications? In-app notifications load history up to 60 days back. Notifications older than 60 days are not accessible in the Notification Center.
