User Impersonation

Summary

With the User Impersonation feature, Bynder now supports Heavy Profile users to impersonate other users within their Bynder environment. When enabled, the Heavy Profile users have easy access to the following functionalities, allowing them to save precious time along the process.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve more efficiently, by instantly replicating issues end users run into.

  • Validate role-based permissions and access controls.

  • Safely test new workflows, permission setups, or onboarding experiences from various user roles.

Who?

This feature is only available for Heavy Profile users that have the Impersonate users permission enabled in the Permissions Management page.

How?

If the Impersonate users permission is assigned, the user takes the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Users & rights > User Management.
  2. Clicks the three-dot menu and then select Impersonate.
  3. A pop-up message appears, indicating that the actions taken during impersonation are not separately tracked and logged under the admins own user profile. In order to continue, it is required to accept this.

Limitations

When impersonating a user, be aware of the following:

  • The user you want to impersonate is an active user.

  • The user you want to impersonate has a lighter profile than your own.

  • You can only impersonate one user at a time (chain impersonations are not supported).

When in impersonation mode, be aware of the following:

  • You now have the same permissions and visibility restrictions as the user you are impersonating.
  • Actions performed in impersonation mode are logged, but cannot be distinguished from actions performed by the impersonated user. By proceeding, users acknowledge and accept full responsibility for all activity conducted while impersonating another user.
  • It is not possible to switch between portals, even when impersonating a user that has access to multiple portals.
