We put together some of our most frequently asked questions in the FAQ below. Search through the list to find answers to any questions your may have.
How do I make titles unique?
On upload, you have can add a new title to your assets. When you add a new title in the batch upload screen, that title is added to all assets being uploaded. If you click the Make titles unique box , Bynder will add a unique number identifier after the batch added title. For example, Boston 01, Boston 02, etc. Note that this unique identifier is based on each upload. For example, if you add another batch upload with the title “Boston,” Bynder does not recognize that title is already in the system. It will start the unique identifiers at 01 again. If you use the same title in two uploads, you will have assets with the same titles in the system.
How do I make the filename into the title of the asset when I upload it
On upload, the metadata asset title is added by default. If you want to add the original file name as a title, select Use filenames as title check box. This title can be different from the metadata title.
Can I store assets in a temporary directory to await approval?
You can store assets in the Waiting Room. Administrators or selected approvers will be alerted when there are new assets in the Waiting Room so that they can approve them before they are published to the live environment. Administrators can directly upload assets to Bynder and bypass the Waiting Room.
Can Bynder create smaller versions of images?
Yes, during uploading Bynder can automatically create pre-defined derivatives (based on the source file) with different quality, format and extension. This needs to be set up during the implementation. See Derivatives (Create Image Variations)
Is it possible to crop images or snip video segments on the fly
Yes. When working in the portal the result can be saved as an extra asset, a new asset, or a direct download. Check out our cropping tools.
You can also make use of Dynamic Asset Transformations (DAT) to make asset variations, such as crops, on the fly.
Is it possible to upload an asset but keep it (temporarily) hidden from the average light user?
You can mark an asset as Limited. Then the assets will be hidden from everyone, and only the users who have the right to see limited assets will be able to access it. In this way, certain documents can remain confidential and only accessible to a specific group of users. You can also set a date after which Limited Usage will expire and assets will become available for everyone.
How can I hide specific assets?
You can use the hide by default property of a metaproperty option. If you create a metaproperty option and mark it as hidden by default, then all assets that have this metaproperty assigned remain invisible to users. See Add options to metaproproperties.
How does Bynder establish the publication date?
It depends if you upload via the portal itself and upload via the API. When uploading manually via the portal, the system will read the exif information (metadata) from the image files. If there is a publication date inside the exif information, Bynder will use this date as the publication data. If there is no date inside this metadata, the date of upload will be used for the publication date. When uploading via the API, Bynder does not read the exif information. However, in the API call the date published parameter can be set, so that the configured date will be used as date published. When there is no date published included in the API call, the date of the upload will be set as date published.
What source file types can I use to create Digital Brand Templates?
You can create the source files of Digital Brand Templates with Photoshop (.PSD) or Sketch (.SKETCH).
Read more about the general rules of creating your template files and start creating your own Digital Brand Templates.
How do I feature a collection on the homepage of my portal?
Collections can be featured on the homepage of your portal. You can use it to highlight specific media on the homepage and to allow your users to directly navigate to a collection.
Check the Publish a collection on the portal homepage section for the instructions on how to publish a collection on your homepage.
How do I create a tile on the homepage that links to a specific asset or collection?
With navigation tiles you can quickly link your users to a specific destination. You can for example link to a specific selection of assets in the Asset Bank, a specific collection, a page in Brand Guidelines or an external website. Set up an image for your navigation tile, so that users can get a quick impression of what the tile is about.
How do I create a tile on the homepage that automatically applies a filter in the DAM.
Do you want the DAM to open with a specific filter or search result without users having to use the portal navigation? You can then make use of direct links and put them behind a navigation tile or quick link on the homepage of your portal.
How does the system ingest images, documents, and videos?
We offer various options for the initial import of your assets. Read more about it below.
Note
We do not provide asset upload from a (S)FTP server.
-
Bynder Mass Uploader The Bynder Mass Uploader tool can be configured, so you can bulk upload digital assets in an unattended manner with metadata attached as an accompanying CSV file.
-
API Upload Bynder's REST API can be leveraged for individual or bulk uploading. For bulk uploads we can provide you with an example script which can be used to import assets to your Bynder portal. We will help you developing a CSV template, used to associate metadata to each asset uploaded using the import script. The import script will read through the CSV import sheet file, and associate metadata to each asset during the upload.
-
Back-end Media Import The Bynder team can ingest the assets directly to the environment via a back-end import. In this case, all files should be placed on an AWS Snowball we provided you with. Read more about the ASW Snowball procedure here. Provide us with an accompanying data file that includes all metadata to be included with the import (.CSV).
-
AWS S3 bucket We're also able to work with an existing AWS S3 bucket and transfer these files to the Bynder bucket for import of assets. We will need a CSV file which includes the asset name, the filepath on S3 and other metadata you want to import.
Can Bynder transcode videos?
Yes, during uploading Bynder can automatically create pre-defined derivates (based on the source file) with different quality and format. For more information on supported formats, see File types supported for conversion and creating derivatives.
