Metaproperty Options

  • Updated

Metaproperty options belong to specific metaproperties and play a big role in your portal's taxonomy. They allow you to classify your assets in a better way and help users to find the assets they are looking for. For example, if you have a Country metaproperty, you can add countries as options to this metaproperty. Find out below how you can add and manage metaproperty options.

Skip directly to

How to Add Metaproperty Options

  1. Go to settings-icon.pngSettings> Account > Metaproperties management.

  2. Click the pencil icon for the selected metaproperty to go to the edit mode and click + Add options. If the metaproperty already has options available, click the settings-icon.png settings icon for this metaproperty.

    Note

You cannot add options for the metaproperties of the type: Linked assets, Text, Button

  3. To add an option, enter the name in the Enter name field and hit enter.

    Note

Once a metaproperty option has been created the name cannot be changed anymore. Duplicate metaproperty options are allowed.

  4. (Optional) Click the add_thumbnial_mp_option.png icon to add a thumbnail for the option, which will be shown in the (smart) filter menu.

  5. (Optional) Enter the label and the Z-index value to define the sequence in which the options should display.

  6. (Optional) Enter the value of the Font Awesome icon you want to use for the metaproperty option, which will be shown in the (smart) filter menu. For example: fa-umbrella. See an example of a Font Awesome icon used in the Smart Filter menu below.m

    Note

    • Icons from Font Awesome version 5 or above are not supported.

    • The name of the icon cannot be longer than 15 characters.

  7. (Optional) Decide if the metaproperty should be selectable. This means that users will be able to select it to tag assets with it in the upload and edit screens.

    Note

You might not want to make an option selectable if you want for the option to be read-only. For example, you have assets tagged with the previous year, and you do not want people to add to this set any more. Still, you want these assets to be searchable.

  8. (Optional) If you want to hide the metaproperty option for all users, for example, if you are publishing sensitive material, select Hide by default. Hiding an option by default, allows you to manage access rights to this option, and decide who can view or edit it on the metaproperty option level. For example, you might want to hide an option for all users but only show it to a specific user or a group of users. See Set permissions on metaproperty level.

    Note

Hide by default can be overruled if you share media in a collection. Then both internal and external recipients will be able to see them. This requires a specific feature enabled, so contact you Customer Success Manager.

  9. Click Save.

How to Set Permissions on a Metaproperty Option Level

Apart from defining permissions on the permission profile level, you can set permissions for specific metaproperty options. In this way, you can decide, for example, to hide specific assets that have been tagged with the selected metaproperty options from users, who normally have the right to view, edit, and/or remove assets in their portal. You can also decide that specific users or user groups should not have the possibility to tag an asset with the selected metaproperty option when they edit or upload assets.

How to Set Up Metaproperty Option Dependencies

Do you want a metaproperty option to only show in the upload screen when another metaproperty is selected first? Metaproperty dependencies allow you to make a metaproperty option dependent on one or multiple other metaproperty options. Start making use of metaproperty dependencies and keep your upload screen clean and well organized without showing unnecessary options to your users.
