How To Crop Images And Recommended Image Sizes In CX User Community

Summary

Cropping images to match the exact specs needed is an important part of asset management. This article explains how to crop images in Customer Experience For User Community (CXUC), as well as inform users on the recommended sizes of various image options for landing pages and guides. 

Who?

The user must have CXUC enabled, and then they can use the image cropping feature freely, no special permission is required. 

Why?

It is important to be able to edit your assets within Bynder. One valuable editing tool is image cropping. Bynder has this capability to seamlessly tailor image size without needing external tools. Image cropper is available anywhere images appear in CXUC, allowing size customization for everything from your cover image to your card widgets.

How?

1. Upload an image or click edit of an existing image. This will open a pop-up with the crop option.

2. Click crop.

3. Choose from freeform or predefined crop options. 

  • If you choose freeform you will move the border to decide how you would like your image cropped.
  • If you choose predefined the crop shape will be based on the aspect ratio in the menu. You can then move the predefined box to the area of the image you wish to keep. Note: This will not change the size, but the focus.

 Note: Cover Image of the Guides, Groups or Landing page are configured to match the dimensions of the tile, and cannot use predefined modes for cropping, as the aspect ratio is locked.

4. Click Save.

Crop Area Options

Shape: Users have the option to switch between circles and rectangles as the crop shape.

Dimensions: Type the exact width (W) and height (H) values needed into the Dimension boxes to set your crop size. The image stays unchanged until you apply the crop.

Aspect Ratio: Lock the aspect ratio to keep proportions perfect (e.x., 16:10 for Guide covers). Predefined ratios come built-in for different placements!

Zoom: Zoom in on a specific detail of the image, then crop it to the desired size and focus.

Resetting Cropped Images

1. Click the Screenshot 2025-04-04 at 10.01.12.pngbutton.

2. Click the edit cover or edit image option, which will open a dropdown.

3. Click the reset crop button.

Recommended Image Sizes

Cover Images

  • Guide or Landing Page Cover: 512px x 320px (16:10 ratio)

  • Guide Group Cover: 512px x 320px (16:10 ratio)

Header Images

  • Default Header: 200px height (minimum width: 1440px)
    DEFAULT_PAGE_HEADER_IMAGE.png
  • Medium Header: 400px height (minimum width: 1440px)
    page_header_image_medium.png
  • Large Header: 600px height (minimum width: 1440px)
    page_header_image_large.png
 

Card Widget

  • Default Size: 256px width
  • Size Range: Minimum 128px width, maximum 1024px width
  • Aspect Ratio: 16:10

Note: When displaying multiple cards together, use consistent image dimensions that maintain the 16:10 aspect ratio for a polished, cohesive look.

Column - Image Widget

  • 1 Column Layout: 800px width
